Diamondback hat pattern

Cathy Hoben is in Michigan for her son's wedding but has been following along on the Stitch n Pitch game. This little pattern showed up as a gift to us all today! Lets make hatS!

Diamondback Diagonal Stripe Hat

Designed by Cathy Hoben

Skill Level Easy

This hat is knit mainly in Stockinette Stitch (st st).  You will have to shape it into a diagonal by decreasing a stitch at the beginning of each knit row and adding a stitch at the end of each knit row, and change yarn colors.

Finished Size Adult:  9” from brim to crown, 22” circumference around head.

Child:  measure child’s head and adjust to fit by casting on fewer stitches and knitting fewer rows.

Yarn        1 skein worsted weight yarn in Purple

1 skein worsted weight yarn in Teal

Needles     Size 6 straight or circular worked flat

Other       Yarn needle, measuring tape

Gauge 41/2 stitches = 1inch

            6 rows = 1 inch

To save time, take time to check your gauge!

Pattern Stitch is Stockinette Stitch (st st).  Knit one row, purl one row, repeat.

The knit side is the right side (RS).  The purl side is the wrong side (WS).  The pattern stitches are done on the knit rows only.

Pattern Notes:  The decrease stitch is knit 2 stitches together (K2tog).

The increase stitch is making one stitch in the row below by inserting the left needle from front to back under the horizontal bar between the last stitch worked and the next stitch on the left needle.  With the right needle, knit into the back of this loop.  (M1)

Change colors:  Do not cut off yarn when switching colors.  Carry the color not in use loosely along the edge, and bring up and over the other color when switching yarn.

Directions

Cast on 45 stitches in Teal yarn

Row 1 Knit

Row 2 Purl

Row 3 Switch to Purple yarn, K1, K2tog, K to last 2 sts, M1, K to end

Row 4 Purl

Row 5 & 6   Switch color to Teal yarn and carry Purple yarn along, repeat rows 3 and 4, changing colors every 2 rows.

Continue in pattern for 22” or until desired length is reached.  Bind off at the end of a Teal row.

Finishing:  Hat brim and crown will be the diagonal sides.  Sew the Teal cast on edge to the Teal bound off edge with a yarn needle and Teal yarn.  Use a length of yarn to weave needle through every 5th stitch around the crown.  Pull tight to gather fullness and sew opening closed.  Weave in ends of yarn.

Wear your Diamondbacks hat with pride!

Gear up for grub with a tripleheader of pigskin, including a meeting of brothers in Dallas. Everybody knows it's been a rough year for her, but find out who else had issues
